Joining the QSME

Whether you are a veteran modeler or a beginner, there is a place for you in the Quincy Society of Model Engineers. And, we would be most happy to have you with us. Every member we have ever had in the club has contributed to our railroad and to our club. And, almost every one of them has learned more, enjoyed more and became proud to be a model railroader.

We are an equal opportunity club. While a majority of members are male, we do have a few female members.

Our slogan, borrowed from the magazine Model Railroader is:

Model Railroading Is Fun

Our present members come from all walks of life and several are retired. Among the backgrounds are ministers, computer programmers, teachers, farmers, office managers and small business owners. We have members who work with their hands and who work with their minds. We have a very mixed but well blended group who get along well and enjoy what we do. We would like you to join us.

There are four levels of membership:

Junior Membership is for young people ages 12 through 15. A Junior member must be sponsored by a regular member, preferrably a relative. Dues are $1 per month. A Junior member shall have the right to participate in all club activities except voting.

Associate Membership is available to anyone 16 years or older, living 50 miles or more from Quincy. Dues are $1 per month. An associate member shall have the right to participate in all club activities except voting. Time served as an Associate Member does not count towards obtaining a key.

Probationary Membership is available to anyone 16 years or older. Dues are $2 per month. The normal probationary period is at least 3 months. During his/her probation the Probationary Member shall have the right to participate in all club activities except voting.

Regular Membership is available to any Probationary member who has completed their probationary period, been accepted by a majority vote of members, and paid a $5 initiation fee. Dues are $3 per month. Regular members are allowed to vote at business meetings.
